Trash Team
You will need: one day's trash collected from your classroom, paper sacks, digital bathroom scale
Your task is to investigate the trash produced in your classroom during a typical day.
1. Sort the trash collected for one entire day in your classroom into categories: paper and paperboard, metals, glass, plastics, rubber and leather, textiles, food wastes, other.
2. Place each collection in a paper sack and weigh it on the bathroom scale. (One way to do this is to weigh one team member with and without each sack.)
3. Calculate the total mass of trash collected in your classroom in one day and the percent of each category of trash present.
