Microorganisms

Microorganism Team

You will need: agar plates exposed in different parts of your classroom (prepared in advance by your teacher), dissecting microscope or hand lens, reference books

Your task is to examine the types of microorganisms that can be collected in different parts of your classroom.

1. Without opening them, examine the microorganisms growing in the petri dishes. Sketch and describe the different types of colonies you observe.

2.  Use reference books to determine whether your colonies are mold or bacteria (mold colonies are generally fuzzier and larger than bacterial colonies).

3.  Were different microorganisms present in different areas of the classroom? Develop some hypotheses for your results.
